Makaela’s practice focuses on corporate, commercial and employment law. She regularly advises employers on workplace and employment matters, including employment agreements, workplace policies, employee onboarding and termination, contractor arrangements and day-to-day employment advisory issues. Her practice also includes mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, securities and stock exchange matters and commercial agreements.

In addition to advising startups, growth-stage and midsize companies across a range of industries, Makaela also works with charitable and not-for-profit organizations on governance and regulatory compliance matters. What Makaela values most in her practice is the chance to collaborate with clients, providing thoughtful, practical advice that reflects each client’s business objectives and operational realities.

Before joining Nexa, Makaela was an associate at Kahn Zack Ehrlich Lithwick LLP, prior to which she practiced at a boutique securities firm and a national full-service firm.

Outside of the office, Makaela enjoys running with her dog, serving as a Vancouver Bar Association executive member and attending multiple book clubs.
